Today, we’re sharing a very simple and tasty Asian-style squid recipe. Once you have all the ingredients together, this recipe is incredibly easy to make. This squid recipe is very tender, and not chewy at all.
Key features and tips
It’s important to score the squid as we have suggested in this recipe. The criss-cross pattern we carve into the body of the squid really helps it to look pretty, but it also makes the squid tender. Part of the trick to ensure the tenderness of the squid is scoring the squid all over.
It’s also important to make sure to not overcook the squid. Overcooking the squid is a surefire way to make it chewy and rubbery. Squid is so thin, so it really does not take long to cook it all the way through.
Ingredients needed for this squid recipe
- Squid (the body only)
- Dried red chili peppers
- Garlic
- Sesame oil
- Olive oil
Stir-fry sauce:
- Green hot chili pepper
- Soy sauce
- Seasoning sauce
- Ground black pepper
- Oyster sauce
How to make our easy Asian-style stir-fried squid
Step 1: Prepare the squid recipe
First, let’s prepare the squid. Score the inside of the body of the squid and score on the diagonal. Then flip the squid and score on the diagonal again. This will create square score marks all over the body of the squid. Next, cut each squid body into pieces that are about 3” long by about 1” wide.
Step 2: Make the stir-fry sauce
In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the stir-fry sauce. Set aside.
Step 3: Start stir-frying
Heat a pan on medium heat. Add in olive oil. Add in the minced garlic and the chopped dried red chili peppers. Stir-fry for about 1 minute.
Step 4: Add the squid pieces
Next, add the squid pieces to the frying pan with the garlic and the chopped red chili peppers. Continue stir-frying for about 10 minutes.
Step 5: Add in the stir-fry sauce
Now, add the stir-fry sauce to the pan and mix everything together well. Turn off the heat and continue to mix the sauce with the squid well.
Step 6: Drizzle sesame oil and enjoy!
Drizzle sesame oil over the top and mix in gently. Serve and enjoy!
