Make our simple stir-fried bok choy when you need a quick and easy side dish vegetable recipe. This is a simple green vegetable side dish option that will go great with almost any main course.
This stir-fried bok choy recipe is incredibly easy to make and healthy too! You only need a few Asian ingredients to whip up this stir-fried bok choy. And if you already cook a lot of Asian-style recipes at home, you probably have these ingredients in your pantry already.
Key features and tips
Remember that vegetables, especially a leafy variety like bok choy will cook down quite a bit. One pound may seem like a lot, but it’s really not once it’s cooked. Make sure to wash the bok choy really well before cooking. You want to ensure all the dirt is rinsed away from the leaves. There is nothing worse than gritty vegetables from not rinsing them thoroughly.
If you swap out the Dasida beef powder soup stock, this recipe will be a Paleo and a Whole30 compliant side dish as well. Simply swap out the Dasida beef powder soup stock for a mushroom umami powder. Here’s one that would work well.
Ingredients needed to make our stir-fried bok choy
- Fresh bok choy
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Dasida beef soup stock powder (or use a mushroom umami powder for Paleo/Whole30)
- Fish sauce
- Ground black pepper
- Garlic
- Sesame seeds
How to make this bok choy side dish recipe
Step 1: Clean and prepare the bok choy
Remove each leaf off of the bok choy heads carefully. Then rinse the bok choy leaves thoroughly to remove any dirt and debris. You may need to rinse them several times to ensure all the dirt is removed. Cut all of the big leaves in half (from the top of the leaf down to the stem).
Step 2: Combine all seasonings together
Combine the seasonings together so it is ready to go in the hot pan. Mix together the salt, Dasida beef soup stock powder, fish sauce, ground black pepper, and minced garlic in a small bowl. Set aside.
Step 3: Stir-fry it all together
Heat up a frying pan on medium to medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and once the pan and oil are hot, add the bok choy and the small bowl of seasonings.
Stir-fry quickly for about 5 minutes, just until the bok choy gets slightly wilted. We like a little crunch left in the bok choy.
Step 4: Plate and serve
Plate and serve immediately. Enjoy!
Serving suggestions
