Chewy and gooey deliciousness is the best way to describe Korean sweet pancakes or hoddeok/hotteok. Traditionally, Korean sweet pancakes are a light golden brown color typically and a very popular street food. Mom would make this for us growing up periodically, and it was always a yummy treat!

This pre-mix box caught our eye with how pretty the dark purple dough is once cooked! This is so incredibly easy to make due to this pre-mix. We found it at one of our local Asian grocery stores and we just had to share it with you!

How to make this easy hoddeok recipe with the pre-mix

Step 1: Mix the pre-mix dough package and water together

Add the water and the dough mix powder (300g) together in a large bowl. Mix the water and mix it together well with your hands (use gloves if desired) to form the dough.

Step 2: Pour the honey mix powder filling package into a small bowl

Pour in the honey mix filling powder into a small bowl for easy access with a small spoon for scooping.

Step 3: Take a golf ball-sized amount of dough

Take enough of the hoddeok dough to make about a golf ball-sized ball. Then flatten it out to be about pancake size thickness.

Step 4: Fill the middle with the honey mix filling powder

Put a spoonful (about a tablespoon) of the honey mix powder into the center of the flattened-out dough. Close up the dough by bringing up the sides and pinching it all together to close the honey powder mixture inside the dough. Flatten the dough back out with your hands as best as possible. Note: You can add more or less of the honey powder filling to your liking as long as you don’t run out before all of the dough is used up!

Step 5: Start pan-frying the hoddeok

Place a frying pan on medium-high heat and add a little bit of oil to the bottom of the pan. Once the pan is hot, place the filled hoddeok in the pan. Turn the stove down to low heat. Flatten the hoddeok with a press – we just used a stainless steel large measuring cup to flatten ours out. Once one side is crispy then flip it over and cook the other side for 2-3 minutes until browned and crispy.
